On August 22, 2024, we attended the Shilp Didi Mahotsav at Dilli Haat, INA, in New Delhi. Shri Giriraj Singh met with the Shilp Didis and had a roundtable discussion with us to understand our challenges. He encouraged us to focus on entrepreneurship and use social media to grow our businesses. Shri Singh said the Mahotsav is a great platform for Shilp Didis to showcase their crafts, reach new customers, and expand their market.
We are proud to be selected among the top 5 artisans out of 100 Shilp Didis—a big honor for us!
The Shilp Didi Programme, launched by the Ministry of Textiles, is a 100-day pilot project to help women artisans become financially independent. It started in June 2024 with online training sessions and covers topics like e-commerce, entrepreneurship, marketing, social media, and more.
A survey identified 100 Shilp Didis from 72 districts across 23 states to join this program. The program represents 30 different types of crafts, showing the variety of Indian handmade traditions.
During the event, Shri Giriraj Singh was joined by the Textiles Secretary, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), and other Ministry officials. Their presence highlighted the government’s support for women artisans and handicrafts.
